About the Author & Illustrator

Author Roslyn "Roz" Rosen, Ed.D., was born to a Deaf family in the Bronx. She attended the Lexington School for the Deaf and Gallaudet University, where she met her husband and lifelong partner, Herb Rosen. Currently retired, her career has included being a rehabilitation counselor, Gallaudet University faculty, dean, and vice president of academic affairs at Gallaudet University, and director of the National Center on Deafness at California State University, Northridge. She is a past president of the National Association of the Deaf and a board member of the World Federation of the Deaf. This is Roz's first book of several, but she has authored chapters in various books. She also has written numerous articles and provided numerous presentations on human rights, education, organizational development and leadership. Currently, Roz serves on the core team of Language Equality and Acquisition for Deaf Kids – Kindergarten Ready (LEAD-K), a national campaign to stop language deprivation. She also is a board member of the West Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind and Discovering Deaf Worlds. In her spare time, Roz strolls along beaches and dabbles in the arts. She and her husband have three children and nine grandchildren.

Illustrator Yigiao Wang was born in Beijing, China, and came to the United States to pursue her studies. She has a bachelor's degree in digital media from Gallaudet University, and a master's degree in illustration from Savannah College of Art and Design. She is an artist-in-residence at the Motion Light Lab for the Visual Language and Visual Learning Center at Gallaudet University. Her other work includes being the illustrator for VL2's storybook apps, The Baobab, The Blue Lobster, and The Solar System. An adjunct faculty, she has also been invited to display her creations in art galleries and shows in Washington D.C., and at Rochester Institute of Technology.
