Always wanted to write a book? Here's how to get started!
This series of tips for writing a book is provided in partnership with our sister company, T.S. Writing Services.
So many people have dreams of becoming authors — and today it’s easier than ever to make that happen! How do you start writing a book? The answer is: however you want to. Some people prefer to write down ideas as they think of them, while others prefer to do outlines. Still others prefer to write stories a little at a time. Or maybe you prefer to sign your stories on video and then have them translated into English.
Whatever your process is, the most important thing to do is to get started. Even a little at a time is better than procrastinating and never doing anything. But it’s also a good idea to have a plan in mind. Establish small goals for yourself along the way. Some examples of goals include to commit to writing 500 words a day (or week), or maybe you might want to commit to one chapter a week or even month, or to write for one hour per day.
Establish a writing routine for a specific period of time, and stay with it. When you are getting started, do not worry about grammar, spelling, or getting things right on the first try. Just write, write, and write, without getting sidelined by finding the perfect word. You can edit your writing later on; the key is to get everything on paper. Even if you have a specific path in mind, sometimes as you write, you’ll find that you go elsewhere. This is perfectly okay.
So, in sum: sit down, figure out your strategy, and start writing without worrying. Nobody will ever see your work until you’re ready to show them, so do whatever you want without criticizing anything. And have fun while you do it!
